What our NiaSeattle students say:
Anulda
Carpe (age 87) - Mukilteo, WA (student of Robin Rudloff)
"I enjoy taking Nia with Robin! All of the movements enable me
to express a free flowing body and movements. Nia allows me to openly
express my ability to enhance my past dancing experiences as no other
fitness program does. I am new to the Nia program and find it exhilarating
to flow freely and move with graceful rhythmic body gestures."
Chuck Parke - Mukilteo, WA (student of Robin Rudloff)
"I love the fact that I can break a sweat and knowing the benefits
thereof. The movements are sometimes a challenge but I have gotten to
a point where I can keep up with the class (I’m 85 years old).
I am like a pig in a hog wallow. I have found peace, contentment and
happiness in my life\relationships and am doing what I can to prolong
this life style\routine."
Wendy Stafford -
Mukilteo (student of Robin Rudloff)
"I started Robin’s Nia classes at our YMCA fitness center
when first offered this past June. I had just been “released”
from physical therapy sessions after a broken leg/ankle last spring.
I had 4 pages of exercise challenges assigned including lunges (on-line
and off-line), balancing, toe and calf stretching. But from that first
class in NIA, I knew I could have them all covered in two NIA sessions
per week. Plus, I get to DANCE again; I didn’t realize how I was
missing the energetic interaction with music from college folk dance
club. Our sessions, under Robin’s guidance, involve a wide spectrum
of body shapes, sizes, backgrounds and agility levels… each class
blends new students in with the regulars and Robin keeps us “sassy”."
Bonnie Tarses - Seattle
(student of Dara McKinley, Dina Innominato, Barbara Cinque and Susan
Tate)
"Finally, exercise that's fun-rock n' roll without the sex and
drugs. Nia is the perfect balance to my sedentary work life. It is a
psychophysical celebration that engages my mind as well as my body and
spirit."
Ken MacIntosh –
Seattle (student of Sarah Love, Erin Storey and Teri Copley)
“Maybe
age 70 is a little late to come to the world of dance; but after a year
of classes with some of our absolutely wonderful Nia teachers, I have
reached a level of strength, flexibility and overall well being that
I had never attained before in my life. Not only that, now when I hit
the dance floor of my favorite nightclub every weekend I can call upon
all that newfound energy and creativity for hours at a stretch and,
in the process, cause a few jaws to drop. I love it!”
Luise Asif - Seattle
(student of Erin Storey and Maggie Sprague and Lee Mozena)
"After almost five years of Nia each class is like the first, full
of joy, energy and well being. I've managed to lose 20 pounds and keep
them off. Have kept stiff joints at bay and plan to spend my 63rd birthday
in a Nia class. Nia also helped me get through chemo and radiation."
Ann Fletcher - Issaquah
(student of Veronica Connolly-Bagshaw, Randee Fox and Susan Tate)
"My Nia teachers are highly trained, and they integrate their personal
talents with the many aspects of Nia to make every class special. They
have helped me to explore movement, find my own natural rhythms, unleash
my spirit, and consequently lead a happier, healthier life. I'm starting
my third year and I've never been bored--there's always more to learn
and enjoy with Nia."
Roz Mostafavi - Kirkland
(student of Susan Tate)
"Nia in Persian means connection of the self and the god within...the
universal spirit and self communication. Your class gives me that chance!"
Rich Hammons - Seattle
(student of Lee Mozena)
"I have been going to Lee Mozena for Nia Dance for about two years
now. My daughter operates a Nia Dance studio in Houston which is where
I first got into Nia. I bring this up because it gives me something
with which to make comparisons. I find Lee to be a great teacher and
leader. Her natural enthusiasm and high level of skill makes each and
every session with her a very joyful growth experience."
Tammy Mullarky -
Seattle (student of Lee Mozena)
"Nia is not just exercise...it is a way of being in space with
your
body and it brings together the mind and body. Lee's class is a
wonderful way to rejuvenate both the body and the soul."
Maureen Wood - Shoreline
(student of Jen Kraft Pesce)
"I am new to Nia and love it! My instructor, Jen is terrific…from
the first class I felt welcome and comfortable and knew I was onto something
good. Jen makes me sweat and smile (at the same time) for an hour straight.
I am hooked."
Elayne Puzan - Lake
Forest Park (student of Susan Tate)
"Nia helps me dance my life--trust myself, put my heart into everything
I do, and keep moving."
Laurie Finkelstein,
CHT - Woodinville (student of Sarah Love)
"I am truly amazed at how Nia beautifully integrates so many forms
of
movement, creating a total mind-body-spirit experience. I'm a hypnotherapist
and wellness consultant, and I recommend Nia to all of my clients."
Donna Von Bargen,
PhD Psychologist - Issaquah (student of Randee Fox)
"I LOVE Nia! I love any kind of exercise that doesn't feel like
work. Nia is more like dance and playing than work. Yet it's also a
great intense workout, carefully challenging muscles that get forgotten
in other classes. I leave my weekly Nia class feeling relaxed, energized
& refreshed. It's been a fun class to share with my 16 year old
(who'da thunk my teenage daughter would even consider a class with her
mom let alone have fun playing & dancing together)."
Gayle Holeton - Sammamish
(student of Randee Fox)
"Everyone who comes to a Nia class is nurtured through the exercise,
mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We have all learned
by now or should have anyway, that exercise is meaningless in the long
term by not connecting all these body systems. All body types benefit.
Nia goes beyond the hour spent in the club and I have regained my balance
in life and healed the damage done in other exercise programs."
What the press says about Nia:
Health Magazine
"This lyrical, dance-like routine is deceptively powerful, delivering
a high-powered workout that will leave you strong and centered."
New Body Magazine
"There are other low-stress workouts around, but there is nothing
quite like the Nia technique, non-impact aerobics developed by Debbie
and Carlos Rosas... It's like a full-body massage that leaves you glowing
and tingling all over."
Glamour Magazine
"Your strength, balance and flexibility will improve with these
exercises. They're based on everyday movements-done slowly with concentration
and precision, they give you a great workout."
American-Health Magazine
"The Nia technique, non-impact aerobics, has come to the rescue
of ailing and would-be exercisers who find even low- impact aerobics
a drain on their aching bodies and tired minds. The international dance
exercise association (idea) rates the Nia technique 4.9 On a scale of
5, measuring effectiveness, safety, and creativity."
People Magazine
"Best of video 1988....A less stressful variation on the usual
bouncing and wheezing, this exercise regime is invigorating without
being devastating. This invigorating workout allows for plenty of uninhibited
expression for those so inclined and leaves you feeling ready to spread
your wings and soar--or at least climb a stepladder without getting
out of breath."
Women's Sports and
Fitness
"Possibly the most revolutionary of today's soft aerobics- movements
are fuller, more controlled, and more graceful than the typical 'watered-down
aerobics' of low impact classes. Nia is designed to be easy enough that
anybody of any age or skill level may participate, yet grow with the
challenges of the technique and improve spinal flexibility."
Sports Traveler
"You'll know a gym is state-of-the-art if it has the equipment
necessary for non-impact....Gyms that are particularly savvy offer classes
called Nia."
San Francisco Chronicle
"A workout that pumps the heart, lubricates the joints and stretches
the muscles to release tension, enhance balance and comprehensively
tone the muscles in a way that leaves the body sweating yet refreshed--all
without running, jumping, or jarring calisthenics."
American Fitness
"Most innovative workout! (Nia) stands head and shoulders above
a crowded look-alike market."
